It's been quite a while since we've been here and I'm glad that we stopped by. Because, we had one of our best restaurant experiences EVER! We were seated in the West Dining Room and I can definitely recommend the cozy booths there. It's a smaller room that wasn't in direct line of the setting sun or as loud as the main dining room.
While we perused the menu, I ordered an extra-dry Grey Goose Martini up. It was perfect. For appetizers, we ordered the Blackened Scallops and the Jalapeño Grouper Fritters to share. They were perfect! The scallops were perfectly cooked and wonderfully spicy. The fritters were absolutely delicious!! They had lots of grouper in every perfectly fried bite.
For entrées, we both ordered one of their freshly caught fish of the day... Red Snapper. We chose the "Island Way Our Signature Preparation" for the fish. If you love Thai cuisine (like we do), you'll love this preparation. The sauce was deliciously spicy but it didn't hide the flavor of the snapper. This was the BEST fish dish I've had in years! For a side dish, we ordered the Wood Fire-Grilled Rustic Vegetable Stack. It was ok but not remarkable.
For dessert, we ordered their Tiramisu and I got a glass of their 10 yr. old Tawny Port. It was the best Tiramisu that I have EVER had, period! Surprised! As I sipped on my port, I reflected on what a marvelous meal we had just experienced.
The service was friendly and responsive. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation, though. By the time we left, it was packed and it was on a Wednesday night. We had a GREAT meal! -

Came to the beach for surf and turf... it turfed.
The parking was weird.. but coming in, the smoke from the grill was great. Definitely made me excited to eat.
Ordered steak and lobster and it was just meh... the lobster was overcooked by a lot and tough to eat. It was disappointing.
The food was overpriced for the quality and the experience wasn't at all what I expected.. it felt like the place was long overdue for a rehash. -

We loved dining two times at the very highly-rated "Open Table U.S. Top 100" Columbia in Clearwater Beach, FL.
The 2nd time we asked our server where we should dine on the last night of our vacation. He said, the "Island Way Grill". So, I reviewed the dinner menu in Open Table, and looked forward to ordering their Pear & Arugula salad then Wood Fired Grilled Vegetables served over Jasmine rice, and made our reservation.
But, the menu provided to us had neither dish!
When I asked our server about it he called over a Manager... who was similarly indifferent, "Pears are now out of season. We could do the vegetables though...". In any restaurant in Houston they would have served us Portabello, Onions, Asparagus, Squash, Sweet Potato, Tomatos, Carrots, Eggplant, etc. NOT a chopped medley that came out of can and heated on a stove!
Diners beware of such deception.
We went to the Asian restaurant at the Wyndam Grand after this very disapointing experience, and they were serving salads with "Pears" !! -

My first experience at Island Way Grill made me never want to go back. I was so excited to celebrate my anniversary with my husband to celebrate our one year of being married and we decided to go to Clearwater. I am allergic to shellfish so I was already apprehensive going to seafood restaurant and made sure to let them know I had an allergy. I ordered the chicken breast with mashed potatoes and my husband got the cedar plank salmon. I remember when they brought out the food, I was in awe of how beautiful and picturesque the salmon looked topped with an edible flower, and when they put down my plate of chicken it looked sad and had no color. A plate of cafeteria food looked better than this. I thought "am I being punished for not ordering seafood?".
I was already unimpressed with the looks of the dish and it only got worse from there. I cut into my chicken and saw that it was raw. I told the server and he took it back to the kitchen. When they brought it back out, it looked like they just heated the chicken and kept it on the same plate. I was starving at this point and cut into the chicken again and it was still not fully cooked, about medium rare. At this point I told the server again and I had lost my appetite as I ate some of the chicken.
This was completely unexpected from this restaurant and it made me never want to go there again. I used to work in catering and restaurants so undercooked chicken is very serious. They did take my entree off of the bill which was appropriate and appreciated however the taste of undercooked chicken is what I remember the most. It was not what I wanted on my 1 year anniversary and over 1.5 years ago and I have not been back since. -

I wish I could give this place a big fat FN zero stars for the snotty staff alone. I was here last weekend and made a reservation which they never asked me for when I arrived I was sat immediately and had a good experience. So this week I don't make a reservation I show up at the same time and I'm told that I have to wait 2 hours. WTF?!? I walk to the seating area and 1 table has been sat! This is total BS !!!! I go and talk to management and in a condescending way I'm told tough shit. Never again!
